Movie Night

The joy that is Netflix sent this to our mailbox this week. I was excited because I really like Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Leo is okay too. Martin Scorsese won an Oscar for directing and we try to see as many Oscar nominated films that we can. Anyway, who can resist a good mafia flick? Scott and I settled in and watched it last night.

I'm still a bit disturbed this afternoon. I knew it would be rough and violent, but I hung in there...I wanted justice for Leo. I won't spoil the ending, but let's just say it didn't end the way I expected. I need to watch tons of Disney generated happiness and happy Chick Flicks for a while now.

Have you seen any good movies lately? Have you tried Netflix?

  2. I hate to say it, but I loved that movie. Maybe it was the time we spent living in Boston (not in Southie, thank goodness) but there is a lot of truth to the corruption that has taken place - and still does. Jack Nicholson's character was loosely based on Whitey Bulger - a mobster who was also a paid FBI informant. The violence in the movie was horrible (I'm with you there) but I still really liked it. Sorry it wasn't good for you. One of my all-time favs is called "Dear Frankie." It's a Scottish film (you can get it on Netflix) and you will love it. Very chick/husband friendly. A real feel-good movie.

  3. I just signed up for Netflix this week. We received "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner in the mail Friday. I've got to wait til hubby's shift allows him to watch with me...next weekend. Had I thought it out, I would've waited.

I've put lots of old movies in my Netflix qeue...Cary Grant & Hepburn/Tracy. If you haven't seen any of those, you should try them. Another GREAT movie, if you haven't seen it, is "Second Hand Lions". Family friendly and a fantastic story.

Let me know if you find anything else good out there!

  4. haven't seen the departed, but good to know your reaction. movies like that stick with me for way too long, so i think i may avoid it!
the only movies i've seen lately are "surf's up" (today), "top of the tots" (yes...the wiggles) and "toy story." i really can't wait to see a grown up movie that doesn't involve men in stretchy pants singing.

  5. I haven't tried netflix - I still like to go get my movies - we have a really neat one here in Montreal that is a lot of fun. I just rented The Painted Veil -Ed Norton and Naomi Watts. It was pretty good, the ending was a bit lame! We're going to see Shrek today. Have a great day :-)
