Banana, Cabana, Havana...Savannah

So, some of the Girls and I are planning a little weekend getaway next month. Where are we jetting off to you ask? Why, Savannah, Georgia y'all!

Maybe we'll tour Forsythe Park and make a wish in the fountain.

Stroll the city streets and pop in all the shops. Take a carriage ride. Maybe a trolley tour when our tootsies get tired.

We'll definitely eat here, even if we have to wait in line for hours (we'll pack snacks to fortify ourselves).

Maybe we can tour Wormsloe Plantation and Bonaventure Cemetery.

Over on the hysterical side though, I was rambling to Scott about the trip the other day, when I finally paused to, you know, breathe, I noticed he had a concerned look on his face. He thought I was talking about going here...

Yes, Scott, the Girls are going to Havana, Cuba. EIY-yi-yi.!

My question to you, dear Internets, is this, "What else do we need to do?" Are there fun things to do just off the beaten path? What are the Absolutely Don't Forget to See or Do This In Savannah things?
As you know, I'm quite sheltered and not well traveled. I need your help.
Please discuss...

  4. Wow! I'm jealous! I've never been there either. What was that tour that they were giving based on a book? I read the book, but can't remember the title. Oh well. I know you will have fun. You might ask Marsha, I think she and Tom went there a few years ago and ate at Paula's son's restaurant.

  5. Oh, I've always wanted to go there. I would imagine it's much like Charleston, which I love. My really cute friend, Casey, has been there. She is on my sidebar. Click on her and ask her what her faves were. She did a girl trip, too.

  12. Advice for Lady and Sons...get there right when it opens. Shorter lines. Buy a cookbook, if Paula is there (surprisingly often) she'll sign it for you.
The book referenced in an earlier comment is "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". They do lots of walking tours based on the book.

  17. How funny that I happened upon this post because my husband had an appealing job prospect in Georgia and I queried, "What on earth is there in GEORGIA?"

    Evidently a lot. I stand corrected. :-)

  27. Okay, I am finally back to chime in over here. :) Let me just say again how much I love Savannah. I am a huge fan of the "midnight in the garden..." book and it was so cool to be right there.

We loved the Bonaventure cemetary, kayaking with rented kayaks (the place was on skidaway road, we were total beginners and it was easy), all the lovely town squares, Tybee Island beach was INCREDIBLE (esp when the tide went out), Ogeechee canal walk/tour (strange little place but a pretty walk) The Telfair museum...we did a dolphin watching boat ride, a trolley tour, a walking tour...all the tourist stuff and it was all so fun.

I will stop now. Can you tell I love it there? :) On Tybee Island beach was where Patrick and I decided we were ready to try and have a baby.

Have fun!!! (when are you going?)

  28. Thanks everyone for your tips!

We'll look into Tybee Island, maybe the Ogeechee Canal and the Telfair Museum.

We are going the last weekend in February.

  30. Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

    Mike
