Oh Deer!

Well, howdy-do! Wanna help me feed the deer?

Great! First you need to put on your boots because it's muddy out here. Mine are caterpillars. Oh, are yours plain? I'm sorry. Go ahead, it's okay to put them on over your church tights.

Next, you scoop out some corn from the bag daddy hauls out from the garage. I use an old frosting can. Hmmm...Mom? Can we make cookies later?

Sprinkle a little here...

a little over there...

Time for a refill!

I bet I have time for a quick swing or two.

I guess it's true, if you sprinkle it

they will come.

  6. What a great idea! I've never thought of intentionally drawing them to your yard with food. We just always watch early in the morning and hope they come. Thanks!

  7. Utterly Annelise is so true! I love, love, love her boots. THey remind me of Lilly from the Kevin HEnkes book LIlly's Purple Purse. What fun to see real, live deer. We went to Cracker Barrel last night and Rylan pointed to the deer and said "NAY" I guess to a 17 month old they look like horses. We'll have to come see a real one to help straighten it out for Rylan! haha

  10. Ever since I was A.'s age there have been deer coming to "visit" over in our back yards and such. There used to be lots and lots, but as the developments have sprung up and trees have been cleared out their numbers have gone down drastically. :(

We are thrilled that a few are still around that we can feed and watch. There are about 3 bucks and 3 or 4 doe that come for visit. :)

  12. This is so cute: Mimi (4yrs) was looking over my shoulder as I was reading your post, saw A. swinging & said, "OH! Can I go to HER house and do that with her?"

  15. Such a cute post - were you hiding somewhere when you took the picture of the deer?!! Ahh, look at that sun and no snowpants or hats - can we come for a visit?

  16. Would I be as nice a mom as you, if I could go back to one kid? Maybe even buy them caterpillar boot instead of black-so-we-can-hand-them-down-to-your-brother...
