Tick Tock

Says the clock, it's almost time for the race to start!

I can't believe in just 3 days I will finally get to wear these...

I ordered these socks last year, but I didn't wear them. Since I really struggled with IT band issues and plantar fasciitis I ended up running the Half instead. I'm just giddy that I remembered to dig them out of my drawer. Maybe they'll be my good luck charm.
I have also been preparing a few other things...

Making sure my batteries are fully charged; adding a few new songs to my iPOD (any hot suggestions?); and printing out my pace band. It seemed very strange (and LONG) to be printing out a FULL marathon pace band this time. But oddly thrilling at the same time.

I've wavered back and forth between using my iPOD during the race. I usually wear it, but only put one earbud in. That way I am between both worlds in a sense. During the 21-Miler, I actually turned it off for long periods--that was something new for me, but I liked it. I decided I'm going to carry it in my pocket just in case I need it. I want to enjoy the whole race experience and soak everything up. Who knows, maybe I won't even use it. We'll see.

Yesterday I received some excellent Good Mail from my sweet friend Kim. Look...

Along with encouraging words she sent me two of my favorite GU packs, Espresso Love. I was just tickled beyond pink, because I had tried to buy some at Academy just the other day and they were out. Thanks Kim, you are a life saver! (Her sweet husband is running his first Half this weekend--Go Jason Go!!)

As of right now, I am VERY excited. Strangely though, I'm not nervous. Maybe you should sit down for this next part. I am actually looking forward to running (shuffling, walking, whatever) 26.2 miles!! Just typing it makes my heart beat a little faster. I'm not going to set any records; I won't even see any of the elite runners until I watch the news coverage later; I will most likely be at the back of the pack; I will most likely finish near the end of the 6 hour time limit. You know what? I am okay with ALL of that, that stuff really doesn't matter to me. The experience and overall accomplishment does.

I am so grateful for the ability and the opportunity to participate. I am grateful for the Bay Area Fit coaches and fellow fitters. Most of all I am thankful for all the wonderful support and encouragement from family, friends and YOU!!

  6. Ok, Holly...don't laugh...if you haven't downloaded songs from the "Footloose" sound track...they are GREAT to run to, I can't remember the one that he dances to in the barn but it is a great "pace increaser". I am so thrilled for you and will be thinking about ya during those hard but rewarding miles.

  9. CONGRATS. And according to my research, this is the best week of training- rest, rest, rest and relax, relax, relax (if that's possible the week of running a marathon).
Ya know I thought I was getting to know you pretty well and then I decided to join your club (the "I have lost my mind and I'm running to torture myself" club). Anyway, I feel like I know you that much more. I have really appreciated all of your running posts and links. I never thought I'd be in your club. But now I am! :)
I wanted to send you something for- first your bday, then Christmas, and then your marathon. I have totally dropped the ball- I am so sorry. I will try to get something out to celebrate your big run!!!
Go get 'em girl- I can't wait to hear all the details!
