We Are Girls Who Love To Run: A Giveaway

I realize that over the last few months I have not talked about running very much. In fact, I have talked about it so little that I am beginning to feel guilty about my title for this dear ol' blog. Fear not, Marathon Bird is still running. Some weeks I get more runs in than others; one day I might be pounding the pavement and the next day be a hamster on a treadmill; sometimes I am faster and sometimes I feel like sludge.

I still love this whole running thing. I really do.

In fact, I am about to participate in my 11th half marathon this weekend. This running thing, it's addictive.

I have not always considered myself a runner, but now I do. Running has changed me both mentally and physically for the better. I run for many reasons, most of all because it challenges my body and frees my mind.

As a mother, I want my daughter to have confidence, a strong self esteem, and to be healthy and active. I also hope she develops a love for running. One of my dreams is participating in running events as a family, from Kids' Ks all the way up to Half or Full Marathons someday.

Someone who shares a passion for running recently gave me the opportunity to host a special giveaway. I am so excited to share this with YOU...

Brianna K. Grant is a wife, mother, and runner. She is also the author of the inspirational children's book We Are Girls Who Run. The story is not only about girls of all ages who find joy and confidence through running, but also about the importance of having a positive self-image, making healthy choices, and expressing feelings. This book is a celebration of all the wonderful qualities that girls possess. The illustrations are vibrant and imaginative as well, truly making the story come to life. Something else that makes this book special is that it is written in English and in Spanish. I think it would be a treasure to have on your child's bookshelf.

I feel so lucky to be able to share this book with YOU. If you would like a chance to win a copy of We Are Girls Who Love To Run, all you have to do is leave a comment (one per person please). That's it! Tell your friends and feel free to mention this giveaway on your blog to help spread the word. Since my half marathon is this Sunday, I will draw TWO names--that's right, Brianna was so generous to share TWO AUTOGRAPHED copies--@ 9:00 PM CST, Sunday April 6th.

Good luck friends!

  2. I highly doubt I would ever be up for a marathon now, but I did run Cross Country and track in high school!

One of my goals this year is to take up running...and I'd like to run a half marathon someday too.
I'm usually not a procrastinator but I have been with this goal. Now that the weather is warming up I need to get on it!

  6. How wonderful to give away two copies--I would love to get one and share it with my two girls :)

I am working hard on my self-esteem and I am so out of shape right now that just thinking about running makes me tired :).

I am in awe of all of you runners out there and maybe someday I will also be a girl who runs...

  9. We have a family in our town who bicycles together, on long cross country trips. It is so inspiring to see familys come together in an active way! Running is a great stress reliever for me, although since being prego I have really dropped the ball. BUT-no more excuses, it has become part of my wieght loss recipe and some of the only time I get to my self, PLUS I feel so much better after I step off the treadmill!

  12. I would love this for my daughter, she's 10 and is very into running! It is cute to hear her say "I'm going out for a run." She only goes about 2 miles, but I'm very proud of her for having a hobby all her own!

Good luck with your 1/2 marathon this weekend!

I'd love to know if there is one geared towards boys, or kids in general. It sounds like a fabulous book to have. Thanks for your generosity!

  17. Running DOES do something to you. I just picked up running at the beginning of the year but I feel so accomplished after I run. I'm like you though some days it's outside and some days it's on the treadmill.

What a great idea for a book! I love that it's in both languages since we are trying to become a bilingual family.

    good luck this weekend!

  22. i have never been much of a runner, and never really enjoyed it much before. But about a year and a half ago, I started running with my nephews when they spent the summer with me, mostly trying to encourage them toward all the benefits that running can have for them. After they went back at the end of the summer, I tried to keep running regularly (not as regularly as I should!), and I've found that it has slowly grown on me. I've gotten so that I've actually begun to enjoy it, and to look forward to my run.

It's been a challenge, while I am in Shanghai, finding a good spot to run. But I have finally started running around the outside perimeter of one of the big stadiums. It seems that at least the traffic there is more aware of people who might be running or engaged in other sports in the area. At least it seem that I can run there without getting run over by a bus, taxi, bicycle or motorcycle!
