Nope. Nothing Superficial About This One

So I've been pondering several deep, soul searching issues lately.

Like beauty routines and skin care.

Well into my thirties (almost to the next-ties) I was STILL suffering from outbursts of acne. Usually several large embarrassing zits at a time that were difficult to camouflage. I tried different cleansers that often made things worse with more redness and irritation.

A little more than a year ago, I finally gave into those pesky infomercials. You know the ones.

Guess what? They weren't lying. The Proactiv system has been wonderful. Sure, I still get one or two zits occasionally if my diet has been all wonky or it's a certain time of the month (and those two ARE related). I just use the refining mask as a spot treatment just like Jessica told me to. Thanks girl, I'm almost twice your age, but no less appreciative.

I alternate using Proactiv with the best mild cleanser EVAH.

It cleans thoroughly without over drying my skin. You can pick it up at your local drugstore or during an emergency TarJAY run and it's easy on your wallet. There is also a Cetaphil lotion that is fantastic.

Now, my inquiring mind wants to know...what is your skin care routine?

  1. I am a cetaphil girl all the way. But since I turned 40 my skin has started breaking out more. I might have to give that proactive a try.

  5. I reently started using Cetaphil and love it. (but I also use Softsoap sometimes too...don't tell!). I use Neutrogena Day Moisturizer and Hope in a Jar (Philosophy) at night. And Yonka Skincare has a great serum that I love. It smells great and works great.

  7. I must have the same skin you do - I tried Proactiv but probably didn't give it enough effort. These days I am a Murad girl. I love the stuff. Thanks for the tip on the Cetaphil - I need an inexpensive cleanser just cuz!

  8. I've never heard of Philosophy...I am SO not in the beauty loop.

I am a proactiv girl, though! It cured my adult acne like magic!

  9. I recently started using Phisoderm with salycilic acid and I have always moisturized with Oil of Olay. My skin has gone downhill since I became 30+ a few yrs ago and Phisoderm has really helped. I hadn't pulled that stuff out since Jr High school!

  10. Hello again! (I've just now gone back to updating my blog, so I thought I'd pay you a visit).
As far as skin care, I've never tried Proactiv, but I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. It was recommended to me a few years ago and it has been a life-saver for my skin! I use them religiously every day. Not to mention, my essential Mary Kay
    Hydrating 'toner'.

  11. When you hit my age your skin starts doing really really weird things. I still even get blemishes from time to time on top of other things. Besides the fact that my skin is sliding off the bone I still practice pretty routine regimes in skin care. A mild ( like Olay wash ) every nite and at least once a week a scrub. Then I use Olay night time. In between, I have fallen prey to Principal's secret ( which I really liked and may order again.) Actually I just slather on whatever moisturizer is around me. Always use makeup with sunscreen. I use Estee Lauder.
