Challenging My Little Old Self

One of my goals this year is to have God's word more readily on my lips. In order to accomplish this, I know I need to be reading His word more and committing more verses to memory. That task could seem overwhelming, but I stumbled across a way to hopefully make it easier. I read about a scripture challenge and decided I would give it a try. You commit to memorizing two scriptures a month, on the 1st and the 15th, the goal being by the end of the year you have memorized 24 scriptures. Isn't that fantastic?

Here is the one I chose for the first part of January:

I wrote the verse on an index card so it will be easily accessible. I'll add a new verse at least two times a month. My goal is for my set of ringed index cards to be filled with scriptures that apply to different periods of my life throughout the year(s) and they will become deeply impressed upon my mind and heart.

Just thought I'd share this with y'all, helps keep me accountable and all that. If anyone would like to join me in this effort, by all means...please jump on in!!

  1. Holly,

I keep the scriptures that I am meditating and writing on my heart in a little, wonderful, creative book that Ms Kim herself made for me!

I have some wonderful scriptures that I can use in times of need...boys bath time, times of wonder...watching the sun rise and set, etc.

Good luck with your goal...there will be many blessings from your time with the scriptures!

    Miss ya!

  2. What an awesome idea.
I have such terrible recall about what I have read where. This would really help me remember and learn the scriptures better.

  6. Good idea!
We say this one weekly in church, but use "acceptable" in place of pleasing and "strength" in place of rock.

  7. This is a great idea! When I first saw the picture I immediately thought how great it would be to have a little book like that to write down a personal thought or favorite quote each day so I'd have a full book by the end of the year. Of course, memorizing scriptures is a more worthy cause and thing to do, but I still like the idea of the book for other things too.

  8. I LOVE this idea! I just started a daily devotional book by Max Lucado, but I also think this is a great way to make scripture meaningful and memorable. I've got mine ready!!
