Fleeting

Today was our last day of summer, our last full day together before everything changes tomorrow with the big K.

I did not want to do anything that we did not absolutely have to do, neither did Annelise.

So we didn't.

We had a lazy morning at home. We baked a cake (not for us). We played paper dolls. We read. We watched a movie. We printed out labels for her school stuff and scrounged in the cabinet for just the right water bottle. We baked brownies. We talked.

It was delightful.

Later we went to a nursing home in our area for their monthly birthday party which ladies from our church support. I've provided cakes, but Annelise and I had not helped serve the residents at the party before today.

What an honor to spend a little bit of time passing out bowls of cake and ice cream to these precious elderly folk while Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash tunes were played by a sweet two man band. Annelise was cautious at first, but soon warmed to chatting with them and sharing smiles, handshakes and hugs.

It was delightful.

She thought the cake was rather delightful as well.

  6. Funny how some of my favorite memories were going to the rest home where my Aunt Sallie stayed during their semi-annual celebrations. It was great time with my Aunt as well as a fun time with the residents.

Your morning sounded delightful Holly. It is tough when they return to school. I've missed my girls so much this summer as they've spent so much at their friends during my bed rest.

Good luck to A on her first day of school!

  9. Thanks everyone! I am glad we were able to do that before school started.

I want us to visit again sometime because I know it's really good for A. and she seemed to brighten up the residents' day.
