This Post Brought to You By the Letter M (for migraine)

I woke up this morning with a familiar pain behind my left eye, my evil visitor otherwise known as Migraine Mack. After brushing my teeth, I downed two ibuprofen, returned to bed with our portable DVD player and a Netflix disc of Burn Notice (I've only just discovered this quirky burned spy series and am LOVING catching up with it, slowly working my way through Season 1 now), and hoped for the best.

The best was not to be because after a while I had to stop it, turn off the lamp, close the shutters and just lie in the semi-darkness and suffer. The silly thing is we have some Excedrin Migraine, and I'm pretty sure it works even though I've never tried it. And even though Scott regularly reminds me it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 and is labelled specifically for migraine relief, I usually rely on generic ibuprofen to work, which it usually does, albeit more slowly. Did you know I'm stubborn and afraid of liver damage?

Since we were out late last night roller skating (I know!), Annelise slept later (10:00am!!). When she finally came downstairs she assessed the situation (pitiful) and suggested she make her own breakfast and watch some TV.

I said that would be divine.

Or maybe I just mumbled something like Urgh.

A little while later, in nauseated desperation, I took one geltab of Excedrin Migraine.

About twenty minutes and one short nap later I felt human again. I guess I'll have to suck it up and tell Scott he was right and I should always listen to his advice.

Do you get migraines (or bad headaches)? What do you take? Do you watch Burn Notice?

  1. I am SO sorry...I get migraines, too, and they are horrible. Excedrine Migraine doesn't help me - did you know all it has in it is acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine? - although I've heard from others it does help them. Ibuprofen doesn't do anything at all for me. I take a prescription, Z0mig. I sometimes have to stay in bed all day. :(

Never heard of Burn Notice, but we just signed up for Netflix so maybe I'll have to check it out!

    So glad you're feeling better!

  2. From one sufferer to another, I'm sorry to hear about your migraine! I take prescription Imitrex, as does my mother and sister. It has been a miracle pill for me! I don't know if it helps my sister as much, but I think my Mom also gets quick relief from it. It's now available as a generic. Beck gets migraines now and I started giving him half of what I take and he gets very quick relief. You might want to check with your doctor. They are great to have on hand! Also, I like Imitrex because it doesn't make me drowsy.

  3. I hope it wasn't our skating that caused your migraine. You were tearing up the rink. ha! Hope you feel better this evening!

  4. Migraines YES....uggh they are no fun at all. I take Maxsalt a prescription after Excedrin didn't work for me.

I have netflix but haven't heard of Burn notice...I still haven't even watched Glee yet...I know. But it's summertime in Alaska, gotta love the sun while we have it!

Thanks for letting me pop in!

BTW: Yesterday, I made a jeans purse bag and I was the coolest mom ever! Thanks for the tutorial.

Send me your e-mail and I'll invite you to my blog so you don't think I'm crazy HA!

  5. Wow, I'm amazed the Excedrin Migraine worked so fast! That stuff usually won't touch my migraines. I probably should fear liver damage, but I don't. When I'm in pain I just want it to stop ASAP!

  6. P.S. Randy and I love Burn Notice and have been watching it since it started!

  7. I don't know Burn Notice, but I'll have to check it out because I think you have good taste in TV shows. Sorry about the migraine. Your line about being stubborn and afraid of liver damage had me laughing out loud. I don't get migraines, but I do rely on ibuprofen for everything. I'm afraid of the stronger stuff.

  8. I used to get migraines/bad headaches a lot. making sure I didn't get too hungry kept them pretty much at bay. also eating better in general keeps them away for the most part. I got one on the way to camp one year where I was supposed to cook. I had to just sleep it off before I was any help!

hope you find something that works for you!

  9. Silken: I think you are right about hunger and certain food triggers being the culprit. I think (for me) hormonal changes also trigger them.

The Excedrin Migraine did work pretty quickly, so I'll definitely keep that on hand for the future.

I've heard of certain vitamin/herb combinations that are supposed to help prevent migraines but have not tried that.

  10. Oh...and Burn Notice is on the USA network, past seasons available on Netflix. It's highly addictive!

  11. Ashley used to get them in her teens and the pharmacist (?) recommended she drink a coke and take 2 benedryls. It usually worked after she woke up!

I'd love to hear what you have to say. I try to reply to comments and answer questions within each post so be sure to check back from time to time. Thanks for visiting!
