Truth: I'm off to a slow start today. I'm on my second cup of coffee in an attempt to find motivation and yet find myself sorely lacking. Even slipping into jeans to take Annelise to school this morning apparently required too much of me.
So my cozy Nick & Nora flannel cloud PJ pants circa 1999 won.
We're actually having a cold spell this week (40s & 50s!) but it's never too cold for happy hour.
But I did turn the fireplace on for a bit when we got home yesterday so I could sip in comfort.
I don't know if y'all remember (or even care) that I set a little reading challenge for myself earlier this year. At the time I had no idea if reading my age (43 at the time) was a reasonable goal or not, in fact I was even a tad intimidated.
A few weeks ago I finished.
I kept a list in my 10 year journal and also kept track of my progress on Goodreads (you can browse through the list of books I read here). It's a mix of fiction, mystery/suspense, young-adult, classics, memoir, historical fiction, science fiction/fantasy and nonfiction. I always have a hard time choosing favorites to recommend because reading is so subjective, so I won't, but I will say I enjoyed most everything on my list for some reason or another.
And? I did MUCH, much better about not buying books (even at Half Price books) this year and using the library (or my own bookshelves) almost 100% of the time. I'm addicted to placing library holds online and get geekily excited when I get the email telling me my books are ready.
Here's a shot of my current library stack:
I'm reading The Secret Keeper right now, just getting started really, but I adore Kate Morton's books so I'm fairly confident I'll be hooked any moment. I quit reading The Middlesteins a handful of pages in but thoroughly enjoyed Chasing Fireflies.
So now I need to set a reading goal for 2013, not sure yet what it will be, although I do want to challenge myself to read more classics and more non-fiction. Anyone want to join me in a reading challenge? We could encourage one another, keep each other on track and share must-read book titles. That would be fun! Whaddya think?
Happy 12.12.12, y'all!
